Battambang Circus- Phare Ponleu Selpak
September 10, 2008 – 12:02 pm
The Battambang Circus is on again. The circus is a great way to combines fun, acrobatics, juggling, contortion and humour while at the same time gives a helping hand to Cambodia’s poor families. The Circus was established by eight returning refugees from Battambang. The circus is also a school for almost 400 children. They use music, culture, dance and fun to educate the children, the local population and visiting tourists about HIV/AIDS, land mines, and Children’s Rights. Battambamg is only a short boat ride from Siem Reap (about 5 hours in the wet season) or a 4 hour trip by road from Siem Reap. The Circus would be a great way to visit an area outside the normal tourist traps and be involved in a great project that helps to educate and bring fun to the lives of Cambodia’s poor children. It is definitely one of the most entertaining and fun shows I have seen on my travels through South East Asia. The Circus performs every Thursday from 8pm until 9pm.

Wow – that looks like a great circus – is there a website for it?

Hey, we are Els (30) and Dieter (30) from Bruges (Belgium).
We are travelling around the world (Asia and South-America) with a free circusshow.
We are now in Pakse, Laos.
Next week we arrive CAMBODIA. we will stay about one month.
We would like to bring our show in the little villages, schools, projects, orphanages… This idea came to us from our last trip to West-Africa where the children and grown-ups loved our little magic trics we performed instead of handing out toys and candy.
Our show”KRAK!” is a mixture of magic, jugglery, theatre, clownery and a little acrobatics. We don\’t use any language, only some music to support our act. We don\’t bring humanitarian aid, but we just hope to bring a smile and let the people forget their misery for half an hour.
We don’t ask any money, but if it is possible, free accomodation is welcome.
If you are interested that we bring our circusshow in your school or project, please contact us.

Dieter Els
