Thailand Cultural Discovery

From £647 per person*
Bangkok to Angkor Wat Cycle Ride
Overview | Itinerary

After driving to the foot hills of the Cardamon mountains, we spend a night in Thailand before cycling across the border into Cambodia. Once across the sleepy border we cycle into the Khmer heartland to explore rural Cambodia. Discover the fading colonial outpost of Battambang and journey by boat across the Tonle Sap (Great Lake), which is the beating heart of agricultural Cambodia.

The highlight, of course, is riding among a thousand years of history at Angkor. We take three full days to explore the extraordinary temple complexes and surrounding areas before we bid farewell to this breathtaking collection of temples and the very friendly Cambodian people.

TRIP PROFILE

We cycle approximately 300 km (a number of rides are optional) on a mixture of tarmac roads in reasonable repair and hard packed dirt trails. Some of the rides at the start have some small undulations but most of the cycling remains on flat terrain. The landscape varies as we pass through some agricultural areas before we get to the splendors of Angkor Wat.

Traffic is light and riders often share the roads with ox carts and other cyclists who carry an amazing range of products on their bikes. The trip is point-to-point and fully supported: a minibus(es) follows the tour group for the entire journey. The cycling distances are easily managed (except day 3) and the tour is suitable for cyclist of all levels.

As we have cycling guides to help lead the way riders can find their own pace and stop, take pictures, and interact with the locals.
